Kampala,
Uganda – In a significant gathering aimed at strategizing for the forthcoming
2026 elections, guild presidents from various universities convened at the
Fairway Hotel in Kampala for the NRM Guild Presidents Conference. The event,
which took place on 3rd August , served as a platform for the youth leaders
to discuss insights and perspectives toward effectively delivering the National
Resistance Movement (NRM) manifesto.
Among the distinguished attendees were Ivon, the Guild President of Kampala International University (KIU) Main Campus, and Sheila Barungi, the Guild President of Mbarara University of Business Studies. The conference also featured contributions from Mahirwe Prudence, the Guild President of KIU Western Campus, and the representative from Team University, Guild President John Sande. Notably, the event was honored by the presence of Madam Hope, who heads the Institutions Desk at State House, bringing a wealth of experience and insight into the discussions.
The conference focused on the key pillars of the NRM manifesto, emphasizing the importance of youth engagement in the political landscape of Uganda. Guild presidents engaged in deep discussions about the role institutions of higher learning can play in mobilizing student support for the NRM agenda. The dialogue also explored how young leaders can act as catalysts for change in their respective communities through grassroots initiatives.
Ivon, the KIU Guild President, highlighted the vital role of students in political advocacy, urging fellow leaders to leverage their positions to reach out to the wider student community. "We must be proactive in disseminating the NRM message and engaging our peers in meaningful discussions about our future," she stated.
Sheila Barungi echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the importance of unity among guild presidents across universities. "Together, we have the power to influence the narrative and ensure that the voices of the youth are heard in the national dialogue," she remarked.
Madam Hope's contribution was pivotal, as she stressed the significance of collaboration between government institutions and student leaders. She encouraged the guild presidents to actively participate in implementing government programs that benefit the youth and promote national development.
The conference was marked by a collaborative spirit, with guild presidents sharing
best practices and success stories from their institutions. The attendees left
the conference motivated and equipped with actionable strategies to prepare for
the upcoming election cycle.
As the 2026 elections approach, the dialogue initiated at the NRM Guild Presidents Conference sets the stage for a more engaged and informed youth electorate, ready to contribute to the country's socio-economic growth while championing the ideals of the NRM manifesto.
