Soroti University Hosts 8th Annual Deans of Students and 16th Guild Leaders Conference

Soroti, Uganda – September 19th/2024— Soroti University served as a vibrant host for the 8th Annual Deans of Students and the 16th Guild Leaders Conference, bringing together university officials, student leaders, and esteemed guests from across Uganda. The conference, held under the theme "Shaping the Future of Uganda's Higher Education through Innovation, Technology, and Student Leadership," aimed to foster discussions on the evolving landscape of higher education in the country and explore innovative solutions for its advancement.

attendees included Ms. Ellen Katusabe, the Dean of Students from Team
University, who emphasized the importance of collaborative leadership among
students and administrators in confronting the challenges posed by rapid
technological advancements. "Our students are the leaders of
tomorrow," she stated. "Harnessing creativity and innovation will not
only enhance their educational experience but also prepare them to contribute
meaningfully to society."
The conference featured keynote speeches from Team University leaders, including Prime Minister Muhumuza Yamem, who highlighted the government’s commitment to integrating technology in education as a means to improve learning outcomes and accessibility. "Innovation is the lifeblood of progress," he said. "In this digital age, we must ensure that our educational institutions are equipped to meet the needs of our students and the workforce.
The event also saw contributions from Guild Speaker Nagaba Eliot and Deputy Speaker Gloria Team University, who addressed the importance of student representation in decision-making processes and advocated for policies that prioritize students' welfare. They urged their peers to take ownership of their leadership roles and work towards driving change in their respective institutions.
Evas, a
Presidential advisor Team University, reiterated the vital role that technology
plays in shaping the future of education. "We live in an era where
technology can enhance every facet of our academic journey. It’s essential that
we harness these tools to empower our students and educators alike," Evas
stated during a panel discussion on digital transformation in higher education.
The conference served as a platform for sharing best practices, networking, and fostering partnerships among various universities, and concluded with a commitment from participants to work collaboratively in promoting an education system that embraces innovation while centering student leadership.
As the event wrapped up, attendees expressed optimism about the future of Uganda's higher education system and the collective effort needed to ensure it thrives in the global landscape.
